GCM Veteran’s Day “Field of Honor” Launched!

Sunday, October 22nd, 2017 by seskaggs7
GCM Veteran’s Day “Field of Honor” Launched!
George C. Marshall High School’s Class of 2019 will continue the tradition started last Memorial Day and create Fields of Honor on
Veteran’s and Memorial Day holidays this year.

We invite you to support the Field of Honor and our class by sponsoring a flag (s) to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military or to recognize the service of a veteran or an active duty service member.
For each flag sold, we will make a donation to Serving Together.  In addition, at your request, we will send an e-card to the family or the honoree to let them know a flag was planted in their honor.
1 Flag at Veteran’s Day – $5
5 Flags at Veteran’s Day – $20
5 Flags at Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day Fields of Honor – $35
  • By November 3rd:
  • Login to pay4schoolstuff.com and select Field of Honor to purchase your flags OR
  • Complete a form and send it with a check to GCM ATTN: Field of Honor.

We hope our Field of Honor will continue to inspire all who drive by Marshall High School.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Marshall High School Class of 2019
ServingTogether is EveryMind’s commitment to veterans, active duty military, and their families in the National Capital Region.  We are the hub of available community resources and services. Our mission is to provide clear guidance and ensure understanding of the earned resources available to our service member and veteran community.  To fulfill our mission, we organize collaborative networks of provider organizations that share information and resources to better meet veterans’ needs, and we provide Peer Navigators to connect veterans to the services they seek.
Letter received from Memorial Day Field of Honor
Thank you to you and all the students (especially the class of 2019) and faculty who helped create this magnificent tribute to our veterans from all ages and eras.  It is even more fitting that the class of 2019 will graduate in the 100th year after the founding year of the American Legion, just after the end of World War I.
The video is very moving as well, and gives perspective to the magnitude of the effort by George C.Marshall High School students.  We are pleased to see that a portion of the donations will go to Serving Together, an organization we support and work with to assist veterans in need in our community.

We thank you for your support and encourage you to consider continuing this effort as a tradition in the years to come.

Best of luck to the class of 2019!
On behalf of the officers and members of Post 2001, thank you!

We Are Looking For Sponsors!
Do you know of a business (or own one)  that would benefit from reaching the incredible demographic we have at Marshall High School while supporting our programs? It is a fantastic way for us to generate funds the Boosters needs to support our school.
The Boosters has launched their new Athletic Partnership Program offering Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities on several levels. The right decision for businesses and organizations interested in partnering with one of the top performing high schools in Northern Virginia.
  • Targeted – GCM High School and Tysons Corner Reach is a key market for corporations and organizations based in the GCMHS area
  • Integrated – Multiple Venues – Teams and Events and Print
  • Year Long Approach for the sponsor
  • Visibility – Recognition, Banner Placement, Advertising & Product Placement
For a complete description of the Athletic Partnership Program information:
Partnership Overview

Your referrals can be earmarked for your student’s specific teams!
OK, this is what you’ve been waiting for…
What newsletter from a non-profit volunteer organization would be complete without a call out for help? Yes, your dollars are a necessary part. Purchasing memberships, annual passes, spirit wear, giant cards, buying Christmas trees and mulch are all a great part of how we fund everything we do for the school. But we need more than just a check.
We need volunteers at every level. Want to hold a board position? Fantastic! We have great people to learn from. (by the way, our monthly board meetings are open to everyone)
BUT, How about just a commitment of two to three hours per year?
I think anyone can handle that. So think about stepping up for something this year. Take a shift at the Christmas tree sale or at the concession stand, help setup and clean up the potluck at a sports banquet, take a shift selling spirit wear or memberships and passes at events, drive some students for mulch deliveries… there are so many ways. No hard sell, you just need to ask. Let us know at president@gcmhsboosters.org.
What a wonderful example to set for your student. Go Statesmen!

FCPS College Fair and College Night
The FCPS College Fair and College Night events offer a venue for high school students and parents to meet with colleges and universities to share information and answer questions about their institutions.
Approximately 400 colleges attend these events.
College Fair (Oct 15th) is an open-air setting and traditionally draws approximately 5,000 students and parents. This event is held at The Fair Oaks Mall 7:30 – 9:30pm.
College Night, held the following evening (Oct 16th), attracts between 2,000 and 3,000 attendees. In addition to the open-air setting, College Night features workshops related to the college admissions process and is held at Hayfield Secondary School from 7:00 – 9:00pm.
Registration is recommended.  For more information please click HERE

Virginia Votes on Nov 7th
The Fairfax County Council of PTAs (FCCPTA) encourages the GCM PTSA to spread the word to our students and families about the importance of registering to vote.  This November 7th is another important election in Virginia as residents will vote for governor, lieutenant governor, state attorney general, and delegates for the Virginia House of Delegates.
Below are links to further important resources:
Here are resources to aid students (and parents) in voter education.  These are all approved to use in FCPS:
In addition, FCCPTA is partnering with several other organizations on fall candidate forums.  Here is candidate forum information from the League of Women Voters – Fairfax Area.  These forums are a good place for students to volunteer to earn service hours.
Stay tuned for more information from FCCPTA concerning its voter registration campaign for high school students.

Upcoming Football Fundraiser

Tuesday, September 19th, 2017 by seskaggs7

Football will be holding a SAVERS fundraiser on Saturday Sept. 30 from 11 am to 2 pm.  Bring in your donated goods that you would normally bring to Goodwill, Salvation Army or Unique Thrift (clothes, books and household items). SAVERS weighs the goods by the pound and GCM football gets a portion $$ for what we donate and you will get a tax donation receipt.  THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO DE-CLUTTER! Please drop off your goods in the upper back parking lot – we will have 2 trucks ready to load and drive to the Unique Store at 2 pm.   Attached is a flier outlining the event details.  Feel free to make copies of these fliers and share with your friends and neighbors.  A list of permissible goods appears in the attached flyer – please note that we are UNABLE to take furniture, baby items, TV’s and mattresses.   Questions should go directly to Heather Reis-Platter heather.reisplatter@kw.com or at 703-930-6318.

Thanks so much in advance for supporting STATESMEN FOOTBALL and don’t forget to start collecting your unwanted items.

All Night Grad Celebration (ANGC) Planning Team Information Meeting

Monday, September 18th, 2017 by seskaggs7
The meeting will be Tuesday, September 26th at 7:30pm in C-113.

Contrary to popular myth, the ANGC Planning Team is not made up of only senior parents.  It’s a great PTSA committee for parents of younger students to get involved with because you are working with parents of seniors who have a lot of wisdom to pass along about all things Marshall (and all things teenager!).

Please join us for an Information Meeting to learn more about the party being planned for the Class of 2018.  We will discuss location, games, prizes, t-shirts, and many other aspects that go into making this night a fabulous farewell to our Senior Statesman.

This treasured Marshall tradition is planned and sponsored entirely by parents and cannot be held without everyone’s help.  Luckily, there are many ways to contribute so that every parent can support this amazing all-Senior all-night extravaganza.

If you can’t make the meeting, but would like to get involved, please contact ANGC Chair Christie Johnson at angc@gcmptsa.org.
