Monday, May 22nd, 2017 by WebAdmin
GCM Class of 2017 Newsletter May 20, 2017

Final Exams: June 5 through June 12th
Senior Trip: June 14th
June 15th: First mandatory graduation rehearsal 8:30 a.m.
Students must be at school by 8:30 a.m.when the rehearsal begins. After the rehearsal ends, students will be given their cap and gown and tickets for the ceremony at DAR. If your student does not receive their cap and gown, it means they still have an outstanding obligation such as a fee or book that has not been turned in. They will be informed about what is missing. Students will also be given their ANGC t-shirts and information packets. After rehearsal, seniors are excused.
 June 16th: Graduation rehearsal8:30 a.m. Senior Awards Ceremony9:30 a.m.
  Students wear cap and gowns.
This is a whole-school event, so there is not much space for parents to attend. If your child is going to receive an award, you will be notified so that you have the option to attend. After the assembly, there will be a reception.
June 19th
Final Graduation Rehearsal
8:30 a.m.
June 19th
7:00 p.m.
Our Lady of Good Counsel Church
Vienna, VA
Students who attend should wear their caps and gowns. This has nothing to do with IB. This is a very nice, non-denominational service where different faiths are represented and there are inspirational messages from some of the class of 2017 students, as well as musical selections from Marshall ensembles. Immediately following, there will be a dessert reception in the church’s hall with a photo booth so families can take photos. It is very difficult to capture graduates with their friends on graduation day so this is a “don’t miss photo” opportunity!
June 20th
All students must arrive at GCM by 8:30 a.m. NO CELL PHONES or PURSES should be taken to DAR – please have a friend of someone in the family keep these items until after the ceremony.
All graduates will ride buses together to DAR on the morning of graduation. Graduates do not need bus tickets. When the ceremony is over, your graduate may ride the bus back to GCM or may leave with you.
The doors to Constitution Hall will open at 10:00 a.m. and will be locked promptly at 11:30 a.m. until the completion of the National Anthem when they will once again be open.
The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
Proper Attire for graduates
Light colored dress
White or light colored blouse and slacks or skirt (no shorts)
Modest heels or flats (no boots, casual sandals, flip flops or athletic shoes)
White or light colored, collared shirts and tie
Khaki or dark colored slacks (no jeans or shorts)
Dress Shoes (no boots, sandals or athletic shoes)
Business Casual
All students are encouraged to attend this alcohol and drug free celebration. Log on to pay4schoolstuff to sign your student up today!
We would love to see 100% participation from the Class of 2017!
If the price of registration is an issue for your family, please ask your student to contact their counselor. Scholarships are available.
We need MANY volunteers to help ensure this is a fun-filled night for our seniors. Please log on to

Each graduate will receive five tickets. You may request a maximum of four (4) additional tickets at no charge anything up through Tuesday, June 13th by contacting Kandi Brown at 703-714-5582. Extra tickets, if requested and available, will be distributed with caps and gowns.
Please be aware there is NO parking at DAR and on-street parking near DAR is extremely limited. There are several parking garages within a 3-4 block range. The closest Metro stop is Farragut West at 18th and I street, N.W, approximately 6 blocks from DAR.
GCM will provide a limited number of buses for families and friends at a cost of $12.50 per seat. The buses will leave the upper back lot of GCM (Door 4) at 9:45 a.m. and will return to GCM immediately after the conclusion of the ceremony. Handicapped buses will be available. If you would like to purchase seats on the bus, please contact Kandi Brown at 703-714-5582. Payment must be paid before seats are guaranteed. Bus tickets must be purchased by June 2nd.

Kudos to the Bands!

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017 by WebAdmin
We did it! Unanimous Superior ratings! We are a Virginia Honor Band for the fourth year in a row. When the Wind Symphony got unanimous Superior ratings (the highest score) at the Concert Assessment on March 18, 2017, that was the second half of earning Honor Band status. The band sounded near-professional on their Grade 6 (Advanced+) numbers:
We jumped the first hurdle to Honor Band status when we earned unanimous Superior ratings from all the judges at the Marching Assessment on October 22, 2016.K

This event is designed to give our seniors a safe way to celebrate on graduation night.
