Band News – A Win!

A huge congratulations to our Winterguard!!

 

On March 4, 2017, they traveled to Norfolk to compete in their first ever Winter Guard International competition.  WGI is the international competition circuit for indoor colorguard.  They took first place in their class and are the Virginia Scholastic Regional A Champions!

6th Annual College Fair

The 6th Annual College Fair for 10th and 11th grade students attending IB Diploma Program Schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region (IBMA) will take place on Saturday, April 1st, 2017 from 12:30 – 3:00 PM at Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Virginia.  All of the colleges that will send representatives to this Fair are particularly interested in students who are involved in the IB Diploma Program: both full IB Diploma Candidates and IB Courses Candidates are their target audience!  For details and a video of an example of a past IBMA College Fair, please visit the IBMA College Fair website: http://www.ibmidatlantic.org/Fair.html and please see the attached flyer.

Update on All Night Grad Celebration!

ANGC is a huge celebration that will be held at the McLean Sport & Health facility beginning the evening after graduation on June 20, 2017and into the next morning. Much planning, preparation and fundraising has been taking place since last summer.

Parents of 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Graders

  • THE ON LINE AUCTION IS ALMOST HERE! Shop to support our graduating Seniors at ANGC’s biggest single fundraiser, open to all Marshall families, friends and neighbors.
    Mark your calendars for the March 10th Special Preview Party, where you can buy instantly at 9609 Savannah Crossing Court, Vienna, from 6:00-10:00 pm and for the Online Auction March 11-19th. Please make sure to register on the online site HERE to bid. See the FLYER for information.
  • SCHOLARSHIP RAFFLE – Purchase a chance to win a $5000 scholarship for only $50. See the FLYER for information. You do not have to be a parent of a Senior to participate and the money is good for any private school or school of higher education (including preschools).
  • Dine Out at Chipotle (Maple Ave, Vienna) on March 7. Please mention Marshall when checking out. All proceeds will benefit the ANGC.
  • The popular Spring Plant Sale begins on March 1 and runs through March 31. Plants can be ordered on Pay4SchoolStuff.  See the listing of all our plants and flowers on the PTSA website soon!

  • ANGC REGISTRATION – Please register your Senior for ANGC via Pay For School Stuff HERE, filling out the form and sending it to GCM HERE or using the form sent in the senior class mailing – see below. If you need to confirm your ANGC registration email Debbie Tosi at debbietosi@yahoo.com.
  • SENIOR CLASS MAILING – Parents of seniors should have received the large envelope mailed several weeks ago. It contains a lot of useful information relating to the events leading up to graduation, including registration for ANGC and the Senior Hallway photos. Senior photos are due by March 1. To return the registration form for ANGC, please use the white postage-paid envelope supplied in the packet and make sure to send to: GCM HS ANGC, 7731 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22043. (If you have not received the mailing, please contact Julie Heiden at jheiden@koonz.com or Anne Motz at annemariemotz@mac.com.)
  • Senior Hallway photos  are due by March 1st. Send in three to five 5×7 or 8×10 color, non-returnable photos with the senior’s name written on the back of every photo.  These should be trimmed to size.  All senior photos should be mailed back in the postage paid envelope provided in the mailing.  Elizabeth Schlier at 9607 Symphony Meadow Lane, Vienna, VA 22182.
  • MAY 1 SENIOR DINNER – Save-the-Date for the Senior Dinner for Seniors and their parents to be held at GCM to preview the Senior hallway photos and learn details about graduation and the many Senior upcoming activities. More details to come soon!

Did you know GCM has a free TUTORING CENTER?

When: Tues-Friday during LEARN

Where: Quiet side of the cafeteria

Students can get help with Math, English, Social Studies, Science, and foreign languages.

This is a free peer tutoring service available to all Marshall students of all levels. Come into the  Tutoring Center to get help with a specific assignment or just to work. There will always be someone available to help you when questions come up!

DONATE YOUR CHILDREN’S BOOKS
If you have any gently used children’s books you would like to donate for a wonderful cause, we have a place for them. Our Category B special education program is hoping to create in-class libraries of picture books. We especially need the sturdy board books, books that make sounds or have different textures, but will accept any children’s books. Please bring donations to E108G, which is located in the Student Services/Special Education suite.

Come out and support the All Night Graduation Committee at a Wine Tasting Event! ANGC is an alcohol-free all night party for the Seniors and it takes a lot to pull off this safe event. See below for details.

Boosters Mulch Sale April 21-23

This is one of the biggest fundraisers for all the sports teams! You can place an order for mulch and the bags will be delivered to your home! You can also opt for having the mulch spread. More details will come-be on the lookout for them and help support Boosters. If you have a pick up truck and are willing to help out, contact ristott@yahoo.com.

CHARITABLE OPPORTUNITIES – PAY IT FORWARD!

In the spirit of this Season of Giving, here are some opportunities to give back.

Collect for Cures

Want to support the Leadership class and Collect for Cures? Make a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in any participating 3rd period teachers’ classrooms or online HERE. We hope to donate $2,150 ($1 for each Marshall student), and we’re halfway there with the funds raised last week! We’ll finish our fundraising this Friday (12/16) and promote awareness throughout the week at Kahoot for Cures and Karaoke for Cures.

  

Inova Children’s Hospital Toy Drive

Parents can also donate a new toy to the Inova Children’s Hospital Toy Drive in the front office all this week! Donors can check out the wish list here on Page 4.  

  

Socks for Dobby

The Harry Potter Club is collecting any warm hats, gloves, and socks. Students can donate these materials to Mrs. Barnhart in B208 no later than December 16th.

  

Pajama and Book Drive!

While you’re out doing holiday shopping, pick up a set of pajamas or a book. Items must be new and can be for any age! Items benefit The Pajama Program which provides books and PJs to underprivileged kids. Items can be dropped off in Ms. Wendell’s classroom, B204.

The Freshman Retreat November 11, 2016 9-2pm

This day is a special opportunity for the Class of 2020 to get to know each other and create a sense of community. It’s also a lot of fun! 

We need parents to help in 2 ways: donate food and help run the stations.  

Anita’s will be providing the main meal of veggie or chicken burritos. We are asking for parents to donate water bottles, individual packs of Oreos and chips.  It’s a big class and we need 600 of each item!
