Kids benefit from healthy food choices in schools.

Since our inception, Real Food for Kids has been recognized as a successful model in school advocacy due to a positive approach in policy and practice and building collaborative relationships to affect change. Of our mission pillars, none is more important than engaging students, parents and schools in building a culture of health that spreads to their homes and communities. Real Food for Kids Healthy School Advocacy Training is designed to help the members of school communities foster a more robust and engaged culture of health by turning passions into an action plan.
Real Food for Kids’ next Healthy Schools Advocacy Training will be held Thursday November 9th at Gatehouse.  Please see our FLYER and click HERE to register!

Parent Curriculum Night – Oct 24
This meeting is an opportunity for parents of Marshall students in Algebra 1, English 9, and English 10 to see what and how students are learning this “new math” and English for 1st quarter.  The Agenda includes:  Time management skills for your teen, Algebra’s new focus for success,  and English “Literature Immersion.”
7:00 – 8:45 pm in Room A205

School Bond Referendum to Be on November 7 Ballot

A school bond referendum will be on the general election ballot Tuesday, November 7. Polls will be open from 6 am to 7 pm Residents of Fairfax County may vote if they are 18 years or older on Election Day and have registered to vote 22 days prior to the election (by Monday, October 16, at 5 pm).
The building and renovation of schools is not financed through the school system’s operating funds, but through bonds. Similar to an individual or a family obtaining a mortgage on a residence to spread the cost of home buying over a number of years, bonds spread the cost of major capital improvements over a number of years. As long as debt service costs do not increase significantly as a percentage of combined general fund disbursements, the county’s bonded debt will not be a contributing factor to any increase in local taxes.
