Students Honored at Pizza Reception

The following students were honored at the 3rd quarter Honor Roll "Pizza Reception" Ceremony held in Michael Hall on Thursday, April 23 during Lunch and Learn.  Students who had all A’s were recognized at this ceremony, as well as students who had received scholarship nominations, who will represent George C. Marshall H.S. in further competition. Also, students who received the coveted Book Awards (from universities)  or the Science Awards from the University of Rochester and Rensslaer University were honored.

The American Legion Boy’s State and Girl’s State Leadership Programs:

Boys:  Josh Yazman, Navid Alavi, Jordan Rennert and Kayvon Nickbakshian

Girls: Theresa  Hackett,  Mallory Grant and  Tenzin  Namdol

 

The following are third quarter nomination scholarships.  These students will represent Marshall in further competition:

The Colonel Charles E. Savedge Scholarship for a student who has excelled in student journalism: Elizabeth Stonehill.


The Robert C. Byrd nomination for a top academic student who also has done outstanding extra-curricular work: Sanjay Sethi 

                  
The Virginia High School League All State Achievement Award for students who earn a varsity letter in a sport or equivalent in an academic activity; have at least a 3.0 GPA, show leadership and personal achievement:  Alex Blomme, Nicole Brown and Activities Participant  Jordan Butz.

 

The Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators and Coaches Association Recognition Scholarship:

1.     Male athlete:  Bryan Whittington
2.    Female Athlete:  Amanda Crider
3.    Athletic Trainer (planning to possibly pursue a career as an athletic trainer or health care):  Lauren Hahm
4.    2-year letter winner in baseball: Kevin Nutter

 

The Virginia High School League also offers the Wachovia Citizenship Award for citizenship, academics and athletic participation, as well as service to the community and/or school: Kevin Williamson and Maralee Pepper


The Mark McGinly Award, named after a young man who was working at the Twin Trade Towers in NYC where he lost his life during the 9-11 attacks:  Christopher James.  The second part of this memorial scholarship goes to a student who has excelled in the Fine Arts category: Kiran Kestenbaum. The third part of this memorial goes to a member of the senior class who is going to attend a military academy: Kevin Smith.

     
The W. Harold Ford Scholarship Foundation recognizes a student from each FCPS high school who has expressed an interest in becoming an educator: Helen Shibut

                   
The Laura Ashley Piper scholarship goes to a senior who has exhibited personal integrity, student leadership and service to the school & community: Allison Borda.

        
The Phi Delta Kappa is an educational honor society: Wen Kelly


Every year, there are universities who wish to acknowledge outstanding juniors by recognizing their accomplishment with the hope that they might consider seeking admission to their specific university.  Often times, they will offer a special scholarship for admission cost reduction or waive admission application fees as an incentive for the student to apply for admission with them.

 

Hollins recognizes an outstanding female member of the junior class for her creative writing merits with the possibility of an engaging career in the field of English: Hannah Cooper-Hamlet

Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Outstanding Student in the Humanities & Social Science Award: Ellen Chapin

 

Xerox Award: George Kontridze

 

Rensselaer Medal: Sarah Doan
